Email Marketing

Email marketing is still the most effective way to get referrals but you can’t just send promotional emails to people who haven’t agreed to receive them because if you do you are, in fact, breaking the law.

That’s why, tempting as it may be, DON’T use your email contacts or email addresses which people have trusted you with for other reasons, to spam them with your business opportunities – and yes, it IS spam if you do. It’s not just businesses which must follow the CAN-SPAM Act – as an independent entrepreneur you are as at much risk of a fine as anyone else. Not only that but no self-respecting marketer will ever do business with someone who behaves in this way.

There are much safer and more effective ways to use email marketing and the very best one is to build your own list of prospects who have subscribed to your blog or newsletter because they are interested in what you have to offer. If you would like to know more about building a list, there is a lot of information and a free ebook available on my blog.

If that all sounds too complicated and time-consuming, the next best option is to join a membership site which allows you to mail to some or all of the members depending on your level of membership. In other words, someone else builds the list and you get to mail to it 🙂

The reason why email marketing is so powerful is that, unlike traffic exchanges where you have no choice which ads you view, you can pick the emails which interest you. For the sender, this means a catchy subject line and compelling content can mean a very high open rate and excellent results. Writing great ad copy is a skill that’s well worth learning.

There are literally thousands of mailers, safelists, text ad exchanges, etc and it’s really difficult to know where to start. I am a member of hundreds and I can tell you that very few are worth spending time and money on. I track all my ads and test them for responsiveness and I’m talking about actually delivering referrals here, not just high CTR. After all, it’s what they do after they click that counts!

So the message is simple – if you’re trying to get referrals to your business opportunities, you really need to be using email marketing because the money is most definitely “in the list”.
